Day 165 of Lockdown – South Africa

It has been about 5 months and 12 days since our country went into Lockdown. Since the initial hard lockdown, the government has come up with 5 different levels of lockdown. We’ve been on level 2 since the 18th of August. Prior to level 2, we had been social distancing from family and friends. Staying home as much as possible. J is back at school. The school has a strict set of protocols that they are following. C is still working from home and that looks to be the new norm for the next few months. We sorted out our…

Day 16 of lockdown – South Africa

It is Saturday 11 April 2020. I do not post often, mostly because I am not disciplined in taking the time to. Here are some things that I’ve been thinking about. At the end of each month I compile a video of shorter video clips and photographs taken during that month. Yesterday I remembered that I needed to do the March 2020 video. Scrolling through photos of the first 2 weeks of March was like viewing life from a different era. Being outside freely. Meet-ups with friends. Coffee and lunch at cafes and restaurants. Weekends. Rock-climbing at the CityRock gym.…

Adoption in South Africa

Some background info We started the adoption process in February 2016. This involved several consultations and screenings with 2 private social workers. I’m not going into details about the process as there are plenty of online resources available. We were matched with our little one in February 2017. Our lives changed forever. We are so blessed. 😊 It is now 15 August 2019. We received amazing news that our adoption order has finally been signed by the court. About 2.5 years from the date of placement. We are so incredibly relieved! Our little one is turning 3 years old in 2.5…

A new Love in our lives

Around mid-January of this year, we received “The Call”, as adoptive parents put it.  It is the call from the social worker letting you know that there is a match between you the prospective parents and a baby. We met with our social worker on the 19th Jan to learn more about this baby girl. I won’t go into details, but we were able to bring our girl home on the 16th February. It’s been an incredible few days. We are so very blessed that we were chosen to be her parents. After much deliberation we decided on Jaime Ella…

2016

It’s been a good year! Not many people I know agree. When I think back over the past 12 months starting at Dec 2015, so much has happened. I should have been keeping track… but haven’t so I will do my best to provide the highlights! Travels Last Nov/Dec we were travelling through the USA, Orlando and California (San Francisco, Yosemite, Monterey, Los Angeles and San Diego). Awesome holiday. In February we had our first climbing visit to Waterval Boven. One of the most beautiful places in South Africa (in my opinion). In March we visited Mauritius. It was a spontaneous decision…

U.S. of A 2015

We had an incredible vacation in the US this past December. Visited Disneyworld, FL. Flew to San Francisco. Road-tripped from San Francisco to Yosemite National Park, then all along the Pacific Coast Highway. Stopped in Monterey, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and ended off with a couple days in San Diego! Highlights were definitely Yosemite and the Pacific Coast. We were blessed to meet up with friends, Megan, Steve and Lynn in San Francisco and stay with Christine, my long-time long-distance friend, in San Diego. This was our first international trip together since 2012.  I’ve always wanted to visit the east coast…
